What is a Subluxation?
A subluxation is when vertebrae in the spine lose their proper position due to a trauma or other stressor. Misalignment first occurs causing the occlusion of the opening at which a nerve exits. When the opening is occluded this puts pressure on the nerve. The nerve pressure causes interference within the nerve and inhibits vital impulses and messages important for proper bodily function. The nervous system is the master control center of the body. It directs all body functions both conscious and unconscious. It tells our body when to sleep, our lungs when to breathe and even our food when to digest. Therefore, any disruption in these signals can manifest in issues throughout the body and limit the body’s ability to function properly.
What are the causes of a Subluxation?
There are three main causes of subluxations. The first cause is trauma. Traumas can be severe, like a car accident or fall, but can also be any repetitive motion that is putting prolonged stress on the spine over time. The second possible cause of a subluxation is toxic load. Toxins can be found in the food that we eat, the air that we breathe, and even the water that we drink. Last, but certainly not least is thoughts. The mental stress we place on our bodies increases the likelihood of a subluxation. All three of these causes stress our nervous system and in return, compromise the overall function of the body. Subluxations can cause many more problems than pain and muscle spasms because they negatively affect the communication within our nerve pathways and limit the overall function of the body.

How does chiropractic help the nervous system?
The nervous system consists of the brain, spinal cord, and nerves. The brain is divided into sections and stores and receives enormous quantities of information. This information needs a way to get in and out. Nerves provide a pathway for this information to travel, and the spinal cord is made up of bundles of these nerves. The spine both houses and protects the spinal cord. Since your nerve system coordinates and controls every tissue, cell, and organ in your body, it is important to make sure that it is working optimally.
Nerve dysfunction can result from physical, emotional, and chemical stresses such as the birth process, poor diet, poor posture, emotional strain, car wrecks, falls, etc. The environment and lifestyles overwhelm bodies causing them to adapt to a sickly, diseased state. Regular adjustments remove nerve dysfunction, breaking that pattern and allowing you to more fully experience wellbeing.
How do chiropractors help?
Doctors of Chiropractic are trained to locate the source of the interference (subluxation)— which may be far from the actual location where the symptoms are occurring— and then adjust the body and allow it to heal on its own.
The type of adjustment used by the chiropractor is based on the patient’s unique needs and spinal biomechanics. Using this information and a personal history, the chiropractor develops an individual course of care. The important thing to remember is that chiropractic success occurs by addressing the source of the problem, not just masking the symptoms.
Who needs chiropractic?

What Causes Back Pain?
Back pain can occur at any age, but it’s particularly common in adults. Although back pain can occur in any location of the spine, the low back is the most common problem area. Injuries are often the primary cause, but poor posture and poor body mechanics can set the stage for pain due to inadequate muscle strength and flexibility. Spinal degeneration, which results from the wear and tear of daily life, is another potential cause of back pain. Other conditions like arthritis, bony overgrowth and nerve irritation may also be factors when a patient has back pain.
How Do Chiropractors Treat Back Pain?
Spinal adjustments are one of the better-known techniques used by chiropractors. A controlled force is applied to a joint that is out of position while other joints remain immobile; the misaligned joint then moves into normal alignment. Once the spinal alignment has been corrected, tense muscles lengthen, and muscle spasms relax. Dr. Noya may use other techniques such as a hydro massage table, manual therapies, and PNF (proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation) stretching.
What About Other Therapies?
Although spinal adjustment is the foremost tool used by chiropractors, other techniques are used as well. Massage or manual therapy can help loosen tight muscles, allowing for more effective adjustment in addition to providing relief for pain and tension. Dr. Noya uses a hydro massage table to help provide additional relief to his patients.Exercises are critical to keeping muscles strong and flexible, but they must be properly done, so the chiropractor usually teaches patients how to perform the exercises.
