Pregnancy Care Q&A
What is Chiropractic Pregnancy Care?
This time, more than ever in your life, it is important to create optimal nutritional, physical, and mental health. Dr. Noya encourages you to receive regular chiropractic care to ensure the best functioning nerve system, an essential component in maintaining an optimal state of health. In addition to the benefits of wellness care, chiropractic adjustments can help relieve the discomforts some women experience during pregnancy. Many pregnant women under chiropractic care also notice increased energy, improved quality of rest, and an increased state of well-being. Many of the changes that occur during pregnancy affect the musculoskeletal system.
The enlarging abdomen causes a shift in the center of gravity, and women change their posture and gait to accommodate these changes. In addition, pelvic ligaments begin to loosen in the last weeks to help make delivery easier. Optimal alignment of the pelvis and spine has been shown to decrease the discomfort and duration of the birth process. These changes can result in back or joint pain that can be helped by chiropractic care. In addition, chiropractic pregnancy care includes exercises for comfort and to promote easier delivery, as well as nutrition and wellness counseling.
If am feeling great, why should I see a chiropractor?
How we feel is not a completely accurate indication of how our body is functioning. Only a small percentage of our nerves can detect touch, pressure, or pain. Chiropractic deals with how the entire nerve system functions. It is imperative for your health and your baby’s health to have the nerve system functioning optimally. During pregnancy, the mother’s body works twice as hard to provide for the new baby and her own body. A properly functioning nervous system decreases the stress on the mother’s body and allows her body to work more efficiently. This is the most important role chiropractic plays in pregnancy.
Is special training required?
Dr. Noya is ICPA (International Chiropractic Pediatric Association) and Webster certified. The Webster technique facilitates the mother’s pelvic alignment and neurological function, balancing the mother’s pelvis and improving the baby’s presentation for birth. He has completed over 180 hours of additional specialized training in the treatment and care of pregnant women and children and is CACCP (Certified by the Academy Council of Chiropractic Pediatrics). This advanced training is rare, making Dr. Noya one of only a few chiropractors who has achieved this level of expertise in caring for pregnant women and children.
What are the benefits of chiropractic pregnancy care?
Chiropractic adjustments restore natural function to the body and the discomforts of pregnancy are often resolved. Women who have nervous system dysfunction may be more prone to nausea and vomiting (morning sickness), fatigue or other problems during pregnancy. Optimum pelvic balance can reduce the risk of a breech birth, a birth in which the baby is born feet first. Finally, chiropractic pregnancy care can promote overall comfort, help a woman have an easier delivery and relieve stress. Chiropractic adjustments are very effective at relieving the discomforts of pregnancy.
